Living in Ashby-de-la-Zouch
Ashby-de-la-Zouch is a market town in North West Leicestershire, near the Derbyshire and Staffordshire borders and 12 miles south of Derby. It was a spa destination in the 1820s, and Sir Walter Scott set Ivanhoe in the area.
Ashby de la Zouch Castle, now looked after by English Heritage, was built for William, Lord Hastings, with the Hastings Tower at its centre. It was a Royalist stronghold in the Civil War until Parliament took it after a long siege in 1646.
The town is at the heart of the National Forest. The Ashby Statutes funfair comes every September and an arts festival runs every May.
