Living in Duffield
Duffield is a village in Amber Valley about five miles north of Derby, on the west bank of the River Derwent where the Ecclesbourne joins it. It has a population of around 5,000 and is within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Area.
Its history goes back to Duffield Castle, a Norman castle built by Henry de Ferrers. Farming and later framework knitting were the main work until the railway arrived in 1840 and Rolls-Royce brought further growth from the 1910s.
Day to day, the village has St Alkmund's Church, pubs including the King's Head, the White Hart and the Bridge Inn, and its own station with trains to Derby and Matlock.
