Living in Oakwood

Oakwood is a Derby suburb next to Chaddesden, built mainly in the 1980s and 1990s on the former Chaddesden Common. At the time it was among the largest new housing estates in Europe, and it now has a population of around 13,300.

There are three groups of shops, the largest being the Oakwood shopping centre, which is about the size you would find in a large village. Springwood Leisure Centre has a gym and a library, and Derby County's Moor Farm academy is here too.

Chaddesden Wood Nature Reserve, the only ancient oak woodland in Derby, is on the doorstep, and green wedges run through the estate as walking routes.

Homes in Oakwood
