Living in Swadlincote
Swadlincote is a historic mining town inside the National Forest, about five miles south east of Burton and 12 miles south west of Derby, with 34,576 residents at the 2021 census.
Coal and clay drove its growth from the 18th century, with collieries, brickworks and potteries. Mining ended when Rawdon Colliery closed in 1993, and Sharpe's Pottery Museum tells the story of the town's ceramics.
Green Bank Leisure Centre, a large dry ski slope, a golf course and a library are all in the town, and three of its parks hold Green Flag status.
