Carlton is a town on the east side of Nottingham, forming one continuous area with Netherfield and Gedling. Carlton Hill is the main shopping street and Carlton Square the traditional centre.

Gedling village, which gives the borough its name, has an 11th century church and a 580 acre country park on the old colliery site. Further out along the Trent valley, Burton Joyce and Lowdham have their own stations on the line into Nottingham.

Lowdham is in Newark and Sherwood district rather than Gedling, so its council tax differs from the figures on this page.
