Living in Hucknall

Hucknall is a market town about seven miles north of Nottingham, in Ashfield district. Lord Byron is buried in St Mary Magdalene church beside the market square.

The town has a long link with flying. Hucknall Airfield opened in 1916, and Rolls-Royce used it for flight testing from 1927. It was also a colliery town from 1861 to 1986.

The town centre was pedestrianised in 2017, with an inner relief road linking Annesley Road to Station Road, and the Art Deco Byron Cinema dates from 1936. The tram and the train both start here, which makes getting into Nottingham easy.
